The Footladder: Mother Mary
No question, amongst Christians, seems to exist in believing the story in Scripture that Mary is pregnant with Jesus and gives birth to Him. Nor does there seem to be dissension about the angel Gabriel visiting her to explain Whom she will be bringing into the world. Luke 1:29-38 and Luke 2:1-7. Nor of her precious adoption of servanthood to God decreed by her in Luke 1:27. Nor does there seem to be any controversy over her devotion to her son in His upbringing and during His ministry. Mary’s Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55) is the joyful song of her feeling blessed by what she experienced of God’s presence with Her and the changes in the world that are portended – the change from human values to divinely inspired ones. No conflict there either. Indeed Mary is speaking of the changes that go on in all of us when touché by the Spirit and influenced accordingly. An intriguing point comes though at the time of Jesus’ crucifixion, when Jesus said to Him mother, “Woman this is your son.” Then to the disciples He said, “This is your mother”, John 19:26-27. Is Mary the mother of all of us? Is she more that just the devoted mother to Jesus? Church history and denominations dissent on her divine status and her powers. Some forty versus mention Mary in the Footladder of Notes Divine, addressing these issues for each reader to decide for themselves. 389 Enter be the King of Kings and Queen of roses Alarmed not be the response of thee to dignity of repast provided
